The former chief constable of Wiltshire Police says he is "proud to have been given this opportunity to help lead the MDP" after his appointment as its deputy chief constable was confirmed.

Kier Pritchard began his career with Wiltshire in 1993, working his way up the ranks until he was appointed as the force's chief constable in 2018. He retired in June this year after five years in the role.

He served as a detective in each rank during his career with Wiltshire.

The MDP's chief constable Melanie Dales said: "I am delighted that Kier will be joining us as Deputy Chief Constable. His breadth of senior leadership experience in policing will help strengthen the force as we continue to build our capability to serve Defence, improve our culture, and evolve to face new challenges."

CC Dales made history by being appointed as the force's first female chief back in May.
