Eight of the top 14 officers in the Met Police will be "swapped out" by early next year, its Commissioner has confirmed.

Sir Mark Rowley was discussing the changes to the force's top team during an appearance before the Home Affairs Committee today.

He said: "The top 14 officers in the Met, by the time we get to the first couple of months of next year, through various churn and movements, we’ll have swapped out eight of them – including myself.”

Sir Mark, the former NPCC Lead for Counter-Terrorism, began his tenure as Commissioner on September 12 after his appointment was confirmed in July following a meeting with former Home Secretary Priti Patel.

Changes have been made to the Met's senior management team since he took up the post, including the appointments of Deputy Assistant Commissioners Barbara Gray and Matt Twist as Assistant Commissioners for the force.

Sir Mark also appointed Dame Lynne Owens as the force's Deputy Commissioner in August, ahead of his start date, while another move has seen AC Louisa Rolfe move from leading Met Operations to Frontline Policing.

A vacancy for the Deputy Assistant Commissioner is currently advertised on the Met website.

Sir Mark discussed a wide range of issues during his appearance, including plans to adopt the "counter-terrorism" approach to identifying what he termed the "most dangerous men".

He said: "We're working on that at the moment, I'm going to change the approach in London.

"There are many tens of thousands of men who are potential predators, if you look at people with convictions for rape and sexual assault and harassment."

Stressing that the numbers "start to stack up very quickly", the Commissioner asked: "How do we take that big list, in the way say we do in terrorism and gangs, and say, 'who are the most dangerous ones that we need to be much more proactive at going after then to protect women and children in London?'."
