Search launched for new Chief to build on 'solid foundation'

The current Chief Constable, Sir Iain Livingstone, announced in February that he intends to retire this summer after nearly six years in the top job.

A recruitment campaign for Sir Iain Livingstone's replacement has been launched by the Scottish Police Authority (SPA), whose Chairman Martyn Evans wants his successor to take advantage of having a "dedicated workforce" and "strong public support".

Mr Evans, who will lead the appointment panel, said: "The next chief constable must build on that support as the service continues to adapt to meet the needs of Scotland’s communities.

“Ten years on from police reform we can look back on the last decade with conviction, knowing that efforts and challenges have delivered a service that is better than anything that preceded it.

“A solid foundation exists for that reform and improvement to continue."

Current chief Sir Iain announced that he plans to retire this summer at an SPA meeting on February 23, telling the authority that he will "work relentlessly" to ensure a managed transition to his successor.

That individual, who will be officially appointed in June on a two-year fixed term contract, will receive a salary of £232,452 per year.

A selection panel made up of policing leaders and Scottish Government officials are looking for a candidate with leadership cridentials who can build on the operational competence of the force while ensuring it adapts to new challenges.

The deadline for applications is April 28.
