Overview

The Isle of Man Constabulary is seeking experienced, PIP2‑accredited investigators to join its Public Protection Unit. You do not need to have held a traditional PPU post to be considered. If you have strong investigative experience and a background working with vulnerable people, safeguarding, domestic abuse, sexual offences, or other complex investigations, we encourage you to apply.

Many excellent investigators – particularly women – choose not to apply for specialist roles unless they meet every single criterion. Please don’t self‑select out. If you have the core investigative capability, professional judgement, and experience working with vulnerability, we would like to hear from you.

This role involves protecting vulnerable people, managing serious and complex investigations, and delivering high‑quality safeguarding and offender‑management activity within a trauma‑informed, victim‑focused environment.

Role Purpose

Public Protection Investigators manage serious and complex cases involving vulnerability, sexual offences, domestic abuse, child protection and offender risk. You will lead investigations from initial report through to prosecution, applying professional judgement, safeguarding best practice and high investigative standards throughout.

The role requires compassion, resilience, and the ability to build trust with victims, witnesses, partner agencies and communities while pursuing justice and reducing harm.

Key Responsibilities

Investigation & Case Management

  • Lead serious and complex Public Protection investigations from start to finish.

  • Gather, secure and evaluate evidence in line with PIP standards.

  • Conduct victim, witness and suspect interviews (Tier 2 trained).

  • Prepare high‑quality case files and present evidence professionally in court.

  • Maintain accurate investigative records and audit trails.

Safeguarding & Vulnerability

  • Identify, assess and manage risks to vulnerable adults and children.

  • Apply safeguarding legislation and best practice.

  • Deliver trauma‑informed, victim‑centred support.

  • Escalate concerns appropriately and ensure timely interventions.

Public Protection & Offender Management

  • Manage high‑risk offenders and individuals posing safeguarding concerns.

  • Complete structured risk assessments (including ARMS where applicable).

  • Monitor compliance with orders and conditions.

  • Conduct proactive visits and enforcement activity.

Partnership Working

  • Work collaboratively with social care, health, probation, housing and third‑sector partners.

  • Contribute to MAPPA, MARAC and multi‑agency safeguarding arrangements.

  • Share intelligence lawfully to support coordinated risk management.

Intelligence & Digital Investigation

  • Develop intelligence relating to offending and vulnerability.

  • Support investigations involving digital evidence and technology‑enabled crime.

  • Maintain accurate records on force systems (including ViSOR where relevant).

Professional Standards & Continuous Improvement

  • Work in line with College of Policing APP, MAPPA guidance and force policy.

  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality.

  • Contribute to team learning, development and evidence‑based practice.

  • Demonstrable experience managing complex or high‑risk cases.

  • Op Soteria awareness.
