CHIEF INSPECTOR

As the lead for Roads Policing and Forensic Collision Investigation, you will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational delivery, and continuous development of roads policing services across the Cayman Islands. The role also serves as Head of Profession for Forensic Collision Investigation and Senior Collision Investigator, providing oversight of all serious and fatal collision investigations. The successful candidate will possess extensive technical expertise, proven leadership capability, and a demonstrated ability to drive innovation, transformation, and operational excellence within a specialist policing environment.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined in the Chief Inspector Job Description, applicants must demonstrate the following:
• Currently serving as a Police Inspector or Chief Inspector, or have held either rank within the last five (5) years.
• A minimum of five (5) years’ continuous experience as a Senior Forensic Collision Investigator.
• Holds a BSc (Hons) in Forensic Road Collision Investigation or an equivalent qualification and possesses relevant professional qualifications in forensic road collision investigation such as AiTS qualifications namely the elements contained within UCPD in Forensic Road Collision Investigation, CertHE in Forensic Road Collision Investigation, FdSc in Forensic Road Collision Investigation.
• Proven mathematical ability and analytical skills relevant to forensic collision investigation.
• Extensive experience in collision investigation, including advanced scene examination, collision reconstruction, evidential analysis, and the presentation of evidence before the Crown Court, Magistrates Court, Coroners Court, or equivalent judicial proceedings.
• Full membership of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators (MITAI), ACTAR, or another recognised professional body in the field will be considered an asset.
• Demonstrated expertise in forensic mapping, scene surveying, reconstruction technologies, digital evidence analysis, CCTV review, and the supervision of specialist collision investigators.
• Knowledge and experience in the management, maintenance, and quality assurance of specialist forensic collision investigation equipment and processes, including compliance with applicable forensic and evidential standards.
• Proven experience leading specialist policing teams, managing organisational change, implementing new systems and technologies, and delivering operational improvements.
• Proven experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that improve road safety and policing outcomes.
• Hold a full driving licence and be trained to police advanced driving standards.
• Ability to edit and review photographic and video evidence and provide technical guidance to investigators in achieving best evidential standards.
Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate a proven track record of leadership and operational success in roads policing, forensic collision investigation, and the delivery of strategic organisational improvements.
Successful candidates will work collaboratively alongside fellow officers, specialist staff, and partner agencies to contribute to the RCIPS’ overarching strategic and operational objectives.
