Prison officer opportunities
HMP Pentonville and HMP Wormwood Scrubs, London
From £33,060 for a 41 hour week (including additional allowance) + excellent benefits
There’s no such thing as a typical prison officer. Teachers, soldiers, retail managers, call centre workers – our people come from different walks of life. But what they all have in common is empathy, self-confidence and strong communication skills. And a commitment to protecting the public and turning prisoners’ lives around.
As a prison officer, you’ll be able to help offenders get their lives back on track – this is the kind of experience you won’t find anywhere else.
What we expect from our prison officers
Our training builds on everything you’ve learned so far about creating positive, constructive, professional relationships. It prepares you for work that’s fast-paced, challenging and hugely rewarding.
No two days or situations are the same so we put a high value on teamwork. You’ll need to be fully committed to supporting your colleagues and understand the importance of acting as one team to keep the prison, offenders and everyone who works here safe.
What you can expect from us
It’s work that matters, so we’ve made sure there are benefits to match. You’ll be given great training and opportunities for progression and development – including the chance to specialise in different areas such as dog handling and search training.
There’s pay during training and you will be in the role by July. In addition, you’ll have a Civil Service pension and eligibility for key worker housing allowances. Other benefits include 25 days’ holiday each year, childcare vouchers, season ticket loan, retail discounts, Employee Assistance Programme and Cycle to Work scheme. At HMP Wormwood Scrubs, you’ll also benefit from a gym including weights, cardio, rock climbing facilities and Astroturf pitches.
