We are looking for Transport Security Inspectors to join our team to focus on direct monitoring and assessing of industry compliance against regulatory requirements of the UK land and maritime security regimes. These are exciting opportunities to influence and improve compliance.

You will be appointed as Transport Security Inspectors and assigned to either our Land Transport Security Compliance team or Maritime Security Compliance team in the Department for Transport.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking observations, inspections, audits and covert tests across the United Kingdom as part of a risk-based programme of compliance activity to assess and improve industry compliance with security requirements.
  • Ensuring accurate, succinct and focused information about findings of compliance activities are entered onto the relevant database in a timely manner to contribute to an accurate picture of compliance levels across the transport industries.
  • Liaising with industry representatives on site visits to conduct compliance activities in an effective, professional and consistent manner likely to improve the chances of achieving maximum compliance; ensuring that constructive feedback is given to appropriate industry management and staff at the conclusion of compliance activity.

You will be required to travel regularly within the UK including overnight stays.

About you

You have excellent observational skills and attention to detail. With strong written communication skills you have the ability to produce succinct reports.

You are approachable with good verbal communication skills to converse professionally and persuasively across all levels. You are resilient and comfortable delivering difficult messages with a tactful and sensitive approach.

A self-starter, you work well independently with effective planning skills to deliver results against demanding deadlines often under pressure. You are able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with industry representatives. You have a flexible working approach to suit the business needs.

Our Land Transport Security Compliance and Maritime Security Compliance teams have key roles to play in the Government's counter terrorism strategy, alongside colleagues in other Government Departments, the Police and Security Service. Our aim is to protect the travelling public, rail and maritime transport facilities and those employed in the transport industries from terrorist-motivated acts of violence and to retain public confidence in land and maritime transport security.
