Detective Constable Transferee
Counter Terrorism Policing NW (Greater Manchester Police)
New challenges await Detective Constables in Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
Counter Terrorism Policing (NW) CTPNW are looking to recruit 15 fully trained Detective Constables to work on a major CT investigation which is expected to run for several years. At the end of this investigation, officers will be offered in the first instance CT policing vacancies as detectives, alternatively if preferred officers can return back into mainstream detective work within Greater Manchester Police.
Established in April 2007, CTPNW exists as one of five Counter Terrorism Units (CTU’s) within a National Counter Terrorism Policing (NCTP) framework, designed to strengthen the UK’s response to the threat from terrorism.
In April 2018, the North West Counter Terrorism Unit (NWCTU) was rebranded to Counter Terrorism Police North West (CTPNW), reflecting a collaborative restructure in operations. This follows a review undertaken in 2015 of how the Force Special Branches operate, as a result, changes have been actioned to streamline processes across the NW region to ensure they are consistent, maximise opportunities and deliver unified working.
The CTPNW manages and coordinates the operational counter terrorism response on behalf of the 5 North West forces: Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. It also offers CT assistance and guidance to the Isle of Man Constabulary.
Operational governance is managed by ACC Russ Jackson and the Head of CTPNW is Detective Chief Superintendent Dominic Scally, who coordinates and delivers the four strands of the CONTEST strategy (Prevent, Protect, Pursue and Prepare) in collaboration with local policing teams and other partner agencies.
The Head of CTPNW is assisted by 7 Senior Responsible Officers (SROs) who are responsible for leading one of each of the seven thematic strands covering Investigations, Operational Support, Intelligence, Borders Policing, Prevent, Protect & Prepare and Business Services.
In addition to protecting the communities of the North West the CTPNW also works hand in hand with the CTP South East, CTP North East, West Midlands CTU, Counter Terrorism Command and a network of Counter Terrorism Intelligence Units (CTIUs) to ensure that the United Kingdom is able to manage the threat from terrorism.
Greater Manchester Police offers a wide variety of opportunities for detectives within reactive and proactive crime teams, public protection, major and serious organised crime and for specialist interviewers. The Chief Constable is also committed to regular promotion opportunities for those aspiring to be the future leaders.
Greater Manchester is an excellent place to live and work. There are good access routes to all of the policing boroughs and the North West is full of beautiful places to visit, including the Lake District, Wales and beautiful coast lines of Yorkshire and Northern England.
In order to apply you must be confirmed in the rank of Detective Constable, successful applicants will be invited in for a competency based interview and you will have to pass a medical, background checks and a job related fitness test.
All successful candidates must be willing to undergo enhanced vetting and would transfer directly into Greater Manchester Police working for CTPNW.
Please note that you must be employed by a Home Office Force in order to apply, or the Ministry of Defence (MOD), if you have been recruited after 2014 and have attended SEARCH and followed the IPLDP training programme.
