The purpose of a MIT is to investigate homicides and as required, other major investigations and high-risk missing person investigations. The role holder will lead a MIT. The role holder will direct and manage the investigative response and all resources associated with the investigation. This will involve developing and implementing strategies, procedures and systems that underpin the investigation and ensuring the management and assessment of threat, risk and harm. This is an exciting and new role. The role holder is accountable to their MIT Manager (Detective Superintendent), the OCU Commander and Chief Officers for the conduct of the investigation. You are expected to be able to travel anywhere in London. Location Barking/Hendon Remuneration The starting salary is £65,355.50 which includes allowances totalling £2,928 and 12.5% Shift allowance. View job Police Staff Investigator (PSI) at PIP level 2 This role is based on one of the 20 Major Investigation Teams (MIT) in London. The purpose of a MIT is to investigate homicides and, as required, serious crime and high-risk missing person investigations. The role holder will conduct a range of investigative tasks, handle evidence and manage information under the direction of the SIO, IO or supervisor. The duties will be in line with current standards and to ensure cases are progressed effectively through the criminal justice system. This is an exciting role. You will work with police staff investigators (at PIP level 2) and Detective Constables. MITs are led by a DCI supported by Detective Inspectors and Detective Sergeants. The role of Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) will be performed by the DCI or DI.
